California Department of Real Estate Joins California Community Colleges to Offer Free Financial Literacy Workshop in San Jose
Financial Literacy Program Helps Consumers Understand the Current Real Estate Climate
SACRAMENTO, Calif.–The California Department of Real Estate (DRE) has partnered with the California Community Colleges and other government agencies dedicated to Financial Literacy in an effort to educate all Californians – from school-aged kids to senior citizens – by producing workshops across the state with the goal of helping people fully understand the financial aspects of real estate transactions.
“While housing affordability and historically low interest rates make it the perfect time to buy, the landscape in the market has changed dramatically over the past 5 years. This workshop will give consumers the tools they need to make sound financial choices.”
San Jose City College will host the free workshop on Saturday, November 6th at the San Jose City College Theatre. Registration starts at 8:00 a.m. and the live workshop will be conducted from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., with free prize drawings occurring throughout the day. A Spanish language simulcast will also be available. Representatives from HUD, California Association of REALTORS®, California Department of Finance, and other resources will be present to provide consumers information that will help them achieve their home buying goals.
“This program is perfect for any consumer wanting to learn the ins and outs of buying a home,” stated Real Estate Commissioner Jeff Davi. “While housing affordability and historically low interest rates make it the perfect time to buy, the landscape in the market has changed dramatically over the past 5 years. This workshop will give consumers the tools they need to make sound financial choices.”
As part of the Financial Literacy Outreach Program, the DRE has joined with California Community Colleges to create Financial Literacy workshops which focus on helping to ensure that consumers and home buyers have the necessary tools to successfully navigate through the challenges of today’s real estate market. Previous workshops held in Stockton, Riverside, and Torrance were successful and educated hundreds of consumers on the new realties of home buying and financing.
The seminars titled “The California Department of Real Estate Presents Financial Sense to White Picket Fence” will specifically educate consumers on budgeting, saving, renting, basic landlord-tenant law, the home buying process, understanding mortgage loan documents, creative financing, reverse mortgages, and the importance of maintaining good credit scores. Event information is available on the DRE web site at www.dre.ca.gov and www.californiafinancialliteracy.org. Preregistration is encouraged for this educational event.
